Becoming a mother has changed me in a thousand tiny, beautiful ways—but one of the most unexpected gifts is how deeply it’s shaped the way I photograph families, couples, and weddings. Motherhood has softened me and sharpened me all at once. It’s made me slow down, pay attention, and notice the kind of moments that used to slip past in the rush of a shoot or a timeline.
And it’s made me a better photographer.
Motherhood Helps Me See the Tiny, Honest Moments
As a Vermont family photographer, I’ve always loved the quiet, in-between moments. But after becoming a mom, those fleeting gestures now feel even more meaningful. The way a toddler reaches for a parent’s hand, the soft glance shared between partners, the instinctive sway of parents who still rock even when the baby isn’t in their arms—these are the moments I’m tuned into now more than ever.
Motherhood sharpened my ability to recognize emotional truth, and that’s exactly what creates timeless family photographs.
I Bring More Patience, Gentleness, and Presence to Sessions
Family sessions can be beautifully unpredictable—especially with little ones. As a mom myself, I understand what it’s like to wrangle schedules, moods, snacks, and nap times. This experience has made me a more patient and flexible Northern Vermont photographer, especially during outdoor sessions where we embrace Vermont’s changing seasons and little kid energy.
Instead of forcing perfection, I focus on presence. I encourage play, movement, and genuine connection, knowing that your favorite images will come from simply being together.
I Feel the Emotions of Weddings and Couples Sessions More Deeply
Even though much of my work centers around families, motherhood has also shaped how I approach couples and weddings. As a Vermont couples photographer and Vermont wedding photographer, I find myself more attuned to the emotional heartbeat of a day. Parent hugs hit different. Vows resonate deeper. Quiet moments of connection feel more sacred.
This emotional awareness means I anticipate meaningful moments faster and photograph them with more intention.
I Photograph With a Stronger Sense of Purpose
Motherhood changed the way I think about legacy. I take photos of my own child so I won’t forget what it felt like—his tiny hands, sleepy curls, the way he melts into my chest.
That purpose flows into every session I photograph in Vermont.
I want your images to feel like you:
- The real way your family fits together in this season
- The way your partner looks at you when you don’t notice
- The joy, tenderness, and chaos that make your story yours
As a Vermont family photographer, my goal isn’t just to document your family—it’s to preserve what’s meaningful.
I Understand How Much These Photos Truly Matter
Time moves fast, especially with little ones. One moment you’re rocking a newborn, and the next they’re racing across a meadow during your family session in the Vermont hills. Becoming a mom made me more protective of these fleeting moments—not just in my own life, but for every family I photograph.
Your photos aren’t just images. They’re heirlooms. They’re proof of your love and the season you’re living in right now.
Motherhood Makes Me a More Intuitive, Intentional Vermont Family Photographer
I still love the soft light, quiet landscapes, and gentle pace of Northern Vermont—but becoming a mother added a deeper emotional layer to every session I photograph. It made me slower in the best way. Softer. More intentional. More connected to the families who trust me to tell their stories.
Motherhood didn’t just change me—it made my work richer, truer, and more meaningful.
And I’m endlessly grateful for that.
